Does the trap sink?

Yes, the trap sinks. It has excellent water flow characteristics when deployed and retrieved as well as when it is on the sea bed – reducing ‘trap rattle’.

What size is the trap?

The trap is a standard 48” x 24” x 16”. Equivalent to a 16 x 10 wire mesh trap, but we have more room in the parlour because the bottom is bigger. Other sizes will be available in the future.

How much do they weigh?

Trap weight can vary from 45lbs to 90lbs depending on your requirements. If you require additional weights we can accommodate this request.

How many escape openings in the trap?

There are provisions for two (2) escape openings, regulations only require one (1).

Are there different colours available?

The initial run will be standard – a white body with black features. Future runs will include various colour combinations.

What type of plastic are they made from?

This is a trade secret, but it is tough, strong and superior quality for the fishing industry. It is also recyclable.

How does the recycling program work?

The Lobster Trap Company will offer a rebate on the return of used traps that will go towards the purchase of new traps or products. We will recycle the traps for you.

Is the trap self-righting?

Yes, the trap self-rights when deployed. Even upside-down. We have recently tested the trap in the flume tank at Memorial Institute, a division of Memorial University, with amazing results.

Can the traps be repaired?

Yes, in two ways. The fisherman can do ‘field repairs’ onboard the boat if the mesh is damaged using screen or netting. Major components can be replaced at our facility during the off-season.

How long will they last?

Every fisherman and fishing ground is different. Under normal use we estimate a minimum of 10 years. This could easily double to 20 years if proper handling, minimal maintenance and care is taken for these traps.

Where do I get them?

Assembly of these traps is in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. We can easily ship throughout the Maritimes (Canada), the Eastern Seaboard (USA) and abroad.

How much will they cost?

These high-end plastic lobster traps are custom built to your requirements. Please contact us for a quotation to your specifications and preference.

What configurations does the trap come in?

The LasTrap can be configured to your needs and preferences. Single Parlour, Double Parlour (American Style), Double Ender and Off Set Entrances. We even have a 3-fish-way option.
